Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (235 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices.

A SOCK OVERHAUL
We got our sock machines set up in May of 2019, and hit the ground running. We knew our customers wanted a sock for every occasion, with heights and cushion levels for all activities. By combining our historic textile knowledge, and using what we learned after redesigning our classic sock styles, we were able to envision a brand new sock collection that could truly meet your needs.
YARN SELECTIONS
WOOL/NYLON YARNS
We dialed in our yarn selection, using a combination of merino/nylon as the main body of the socks. These yarns deliver a high merino wool content, with the extra durability of nylon.
HIGH WOOL CONTENT
We have packed in huge quantities of wool next to your skin, using the synthetics only as needed to improve fit and durability.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Stretch nylon yarns are light enough to keep the merino content high while giving shape and fit to the sock. Lightweight plating also adds durability to high wear zones on the heel and toe.
I wore the Midweight Wool Boot Socks on a cold multi day trip to Mt. Rainier, and they impressed me more than I expected. At one point I accidentally stepped into a stream, and water splashed over the top of the sock. I instantly thought my day was ruined, but I was wrong. The socks did their job, dried quickly, and kept my feet warm and comfortable so I could keep going on our adventure. Durable, reliable, and worth every step.
Boot socks were perfect weight without the bulk. Wide top band, not too tight. Buying another pair

Steven D & The Minus33 Team
When I received an email from Minus33 claiming their new S76 was on par with my beloved 1405 socks I immediately emailed them to state my disbelief. Steven D emailed me back and stated their case. So I ordered 4 pair in Aug. 2024 and have reserved my review until now May 2025. The Minus33 S76 (I do not like all the names for the socks, S76 is sooo much easier) have been in the weekly rotation every week since I received them. Hoping to prove my point (I am serious about my socks) that my 1405’s rule the roost, however, I still continue to pull out the S76’s first even though there are 8 pairs of much newer 1405’s in the drawer with them.
Why is this?
For me it is totally the top band construction, it does not leave the dents/impressions in my cankle region that the 1405’s do. At all! In this regard they are more like the 1953, another favorite. Also I have to say the quality of the yarns must be better as they are STILL unbelievably comfortable and dense even after 9 months of continuous use. What this tells me is that the wool is staying in the sock and not coming out in the lint catcher as fast as the previous favorite, but i do typically get 12 to 18 months out of the others before they get too thin. So the evaluation goes on. The next socks I buy will be the S76, i like to have 8 pairs in the rotation. I do keep the pair matched together and foot specific by uniquely marking the sock by the pair and foot. They are always worn together as a set, on the same feet, so one doesn’t get more use that its partner.
These are a great sock. Please keep making them. FWIW, i only wear Minus33 wool t-shirts. The LW SS crew and MW LS crew are on all but 3 3 or 4 months of the year. They are far superior to your competitors offerings which I stopped investigating years ago.

Thank you for taking the time to put our S76 socks to the test and for the great feedback! We are happy to hear that after 9 months, you still pull out the S76’s first, even though there are 8 pairs of much newer 1405's in there. We believe that our USA made socks can stand with the best of them and it's great to hear your experience reflects that. Thank you for your continued support as well and we look forward to hearing how the socks continue to perform for you!
Best,
-Steven D
