Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

I haven’t had an occasion to wear it yet, but…

I haven’t had an occasion to wear it yet, but it looks to be well made and of high quality! Minus 33 provided great service as always!

These are extremely soft. I being a women ordered these for myself cause I could not find a unionsuit made for Women that were actually made for extreme cold weather anywhere on the internet so I thought I would try them! I use these for backcountry sleepwear because they are non restrictive and having a one piece is extremely comfortable. I love the draw string placed in them however I am not sure how I will like the metal snaps on the lower part of the suit. This item is not made with thin material it feels very solidly built. These are well made and should last me an extremely long time as the pair I had before that was made for women lasted me 30 years and I wore them till they were falling apart! Thank you for still making a Unionsuit a style that seems to be fading out.

So far so good

So far so good. Its extremely soft and comfortable, hopefully it will keep me nice and warm when I winter camp. Im 6ft6 and about 220 lbs and the xl fits perfectly with little to no ride up on the legs and arms when I move. Its borderline impossible to find thermals that fit my tall and thinner frame and this does the trick.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Midweight - Union Suit 100% Merino Wool. We're glad to hear that you're finding it soft and comfortable, and that it fits your tall and thinner frame well. We hope it keeps you warm during your winter camping adventures. Happy exploring!

I literally never take it off.

I work in northern BC Canada as the maintenance person at an off grid lodge. I have two of these and jump out of one into the other when it gets too stinky, which takes a while even! Rain, sleet, snow, sea spray, and salt water, it keeps me toasty warm. The material is very soft and delicate though, so the only thing is that it doesn't do too well as pajamas/relaxing wear. The older one has some threadbare patches on the butt from sitting around in it, but that took years.

Thank you for sharing your experience with our Midweight - Union Suit! We are thrilled to hear that it has become a staple in your work attire and has kept you warm in harsh conditions. We appreciate your feedback about the delicate material and will take this into consideration for future improvements. Thank you for your support and stay warm!

Bad design

If I remember correctly I purchased my Minus33 union suit last winter and 2 of the snaps in the crotch have already failed.
While the materials and workmanship of this union suit are top notch the garment does have a few designs flaws including the crotch snaps, having a belt and a button front which lets cold air in.
Having said this I’m the first to admit as a former Marine and hunting guide I’m tough on gear and living off grid in northern Maine I live in my union suit 24/7 during the winter. The ideal union suit used to be made by Patagonia. It was made with Capilene and had a two way zipper in front that never failed me in 20 years of use. It also had an elasticized back waist panel with a long tail that tucked into the elasticized back. It was genius but unfortunately Patagonia stoped making it.
I would highly recommend Minus33 look into updating their union suit design to a more rugged design that will work better for outdoor professionals. Al

My Favourite Go-To

I wear this for long distance nordic skating, snowboarding down couloirs & other high alpine descents, under my drysuit on the river in winter, and numerous other activities that demand a great warmth to weight ratio. I have two of these, and they are hands down the best midweight garment I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I love the buttons instead of a zipper (please never change this). The thumb loops make entry into my drysuit or other outer layers incredibly simple. I would definitely recommend against wearing any bottoms under these, doing so renders the button relief portion useless. I would highly suggest wearing a micro or lightweight top in extreme cold, but honestly that's not necessary for most of what I do since I'm moving a lot. On a side note, everyone who sees it immediately inquires where to get it, I'm not sure how many have decided to put down the cash, I would say if you're contemplating this versus an individual top & bottom, get this!

I know it's hard to trust a review that doesn't have cons. I haven't had an experience yet that would warrant one, then again I've had my first one for about 2 months if I recall correctly. If I had to be really nit-picky, I'd say it's a downside that it's only in red, I'd love to see a version in black.

Instant classic!

First thing I put on in the morning! Perfect weight and a great fit. Fantastic part of the kit, thought it was a bit of a whim, but quickly became my go-to. Couldn’t be improved!

Incredible Base Layer

When working outdoors throughout the year sweat management during the winter months is sometimes problematic. My new Union Suit base layer negates the fluctuating temperatures and I have zero cold chills created from sweating. One of my best gear purchases ever. Well done Minus 33!

Great piece of kit

Great garment for cold weather pursuits. Fairly light and compressible for the weight of wool used. My only gripe would be the use of buttons instead of a zipper, but it is only a minor inconvenience in all fairness. The buttons hold well and I cannot feel any noticeable heat leak when using this appropriately as a baselayer. Overall great product for the price. Oh, and a black color option would be nice as well. Keep up the good work.

Miguel

Seems like a great product. It looks good and seems comfortable, and the thumbholes are a really nice touch. But why the drawcord? I don't think it's very useful, since the garment can't fall down, and it seems rather cumbersome. I'd say it's a drawback.

(Sorry for the pun, I couldn't help myself).

Minus33 Merino Wool Clothing

Miguel,

Thank you for your questions regarding the adjustable drawcord on our Merino Wool Union Suit. This allows for the garment to be adjusted as needed in the waist or to find the desired placement of the waist, if preferred.
