Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (245 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices. Looking for more merino wool mini crew socks? Benefits of Merino Wool
These are darn more comfortable than the other brand. The flare at the top matches anatomy and makes it way more comfortable. They also have more stretch and comfort where the top of the foot meets the ankle. They are super comfortable fitting without worry about them shifting around on your feet. These lightweight socks are thicker and more padded than the midweight socks that cost more. I'm super happy and have just ordered more pairs.
Hi Jeffrey, we're thrilled to hear you're so happy with the socks! Thanks for sharing your experience and for ordering more. Enjoy your adventures!
I absolutely loved these for a year until they got holes in them. Yes, they offer a warranty, but the terms make it not worth your time. First, you MUST physically return the socks, at your own expense, and then the most they will do, if they deem your complaint valid, is issue a store credit. I won’t buy these again, as there are far too many hoops to jump through, and their return policy is pretty much designed to make people give up and not return an item that didn’t hold up.
Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with the warranty process. We appreciate your input and will consider it as we work to improve our policies. At this time, we would like to send you a replacement pair of socks. Can you please email us at info@minus33.com so we can send you the correct color?
Haven’t had for long ( this model ) guiding and personal use I expect my equipment to work and to date minus 33 has been the pinnacle of comfort and safety ( cold weather protection)
I can say I am always warm and comfortable despite the weather layering and the fact that even wet the merino wool product stays warm!

These socks really keep warm and fit perfectly.
I hike 2 to 3 times a week often more than 10 miles at an outing. The padding is excellent, and the durability is beyond expectations.
Washing is not an issue the socks retain their shape and comfort. I've tried many brands in the past I consider these the best for summer hiking.

These are light enough for these 90 degree summer days. And so,so comfortable. I get more than a week out of them dare i say 2 weeks before they need washing. Hand wash in Woolite and use those wool balls in the dryer on delicate and they come out better than new. So soft is what i mean. Will be buying more. More colors please!
Maybe some colors for the ladies?

Awesome stuff!
These are advertised as a hunting boot sock and the wrapper stated a 10” sock. Before washing they barely were high enough to reach above an 8” hunting boot, after washing they just reach above my hiking boots.
Richard,

Truthfully I am a natural fiber nut. I worked in the textile business all of my career, most of it in the cashmere business and came to appreciate all natural fibers. Wear synthetic things is like wear plastic bags for me. Of course I love cashmere but I spent a lot of time with wool, silk cotton and other beautiful natural fibers. As much as the plastic/synthetic fibers try to imitate them, nothing comes close to natural fibers. Before my retirement I wore mostly wool dress socks or cotton socks. After I retired last year and with Covid, I began to play golf virtually every day and cotton and wool dress socks just didn't work. My wife acted on my complaining and bought me a bunch of Bomba wool socks and my near 7 day a week 4 + mile walk on the golf course wore them out pretty quickly. Next I tried Smartwool. They performed about the same as the Bombas but they too sprouted holes within the first couple of months of wear. Then I tired Minus 33 Bought them in February and here on August 25, no holes in the heals or toes or any sign of significant wear & tear. They're comfortable, easy to take care of and durable. I'm now a Minus 33 devotee!!
Jim, we are so glad to hear you're loving your socks, we're a little nutty for Wool too!. -Felicia W.
Seriously love these socks better than ice breaker and smartwool.
Gregory, thank you for taking the time to leave a review! Our sock developers will love to know that you're enjoying them! -Felicia W.
