Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (245 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices.

Very pleased with these socks. Extremely good quality and comfortable.
They feel greatI wear 11 1/2 ww and the size large socks fit me perfectly. I have some calluses on each foot that just shred cotton socks so well see for long they last.
For nearly 5 years now, I’ve been thoroughly pleased with all my Minus 33 clothing. The comfort and performance is top of the line. These lightweight Heratige Crew socks are excellent for 3 seasons daily wear. The other items that I can recommend are Day Hiker midweight socks, both the Lightweight and Expedition weight thermals, Lightweight Tshirts, and the Kodiak fleece hoodie. Clothing is our first layer of shelter in the outdoors and our first line of defense against the elements. Thanks to Minus 33 for awesome gear!

Awesome socks! Whether cold-weather bowhunting or as a casual everyday sock... this sock cannot be beat!
I've been slowly switching my socks over to Merino wool. I bought from another popular brand but love these so much more. They are more comfortable, have some stretch to them and fit great. I thought they would be the thickness of a dress sock but they are a little thicker. Next I'm going to try the micro weight.
Good Afternoon Elaine,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us to let us know how much you are loving our Lightweight Mountain Heritage socks. Our micro weight socks are a great option for a lighter, cooler fit. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Minus33 socks are excellent. They soften more after first washing. I bought the crew size based on the review that said it stood 2" above an 8" military combat boot. That sounded tall enough for me. But for my 7.5 foot, 5'4" 117# frame a size medium stands at a true crew height 4" above my ankle. I hope our reviews help with size ordering. As for me, I'll head over and order the boot height.

I sweat a lot. I usually change my socks 2-4 times a day. In my mind wool is fit warmth so I never would have thought of wool for daily warm weather wear. I heard about minus33 through a Big Woods Bucks event and decided to give them a try. I will never buy a different sock. These are very comfortable and I wear them 2 days in a row! Amazing.

I bought one pair of these and one pair of the Micro Full Cushion Crew to figure out which ones work best for my application (back country hunting). Straight away the "crew" size stands about 2" proud above a standard 8" military combat boot. I wore these on a six mile ruck with new boots and a light ~22 pound load and wore huge blisters on my heels and balls of my feet. I don't think it was the socks, but the new boots and the pace; I was maintaining a 15 minute / mile pace the whole way. I did a sock change midway and both pairs stayed perfectly in place and didn't bunch up anywhere.
I've been using them weekly for about a month and a half rucking with various loads, terrain and distances and have had zero issues with the socks. Most recently I did a 4.5 mile ruck with a 40 pound load in one hour and 10 minutes. I hoofed it out hard and had to shuffle a bit to make time. I wore women's knee high nylons under the socks and didn't need to do a sock change. I didn't get blisters or hotspots, the socks stayed in place and never bunched up or slid down....PERFECT! I still haven't decided which ones I like best because they both rock! I'll probably get another two pairs of each for different seasons.
Everything I've bought from Minus 33 is top notch. I bought two sets of mid-weight base layers over ten years ago and still use them. The first three years they were worn every day in North Dakota's (seemingly) eight month long winters while working in the oil field. I've used them hard and they are still kicking butt! Just do it, you know you want to!
Dear Customer,
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review of our Lightweight Mountain Heritage Crew Wool Socks. We're happy to hear that you have been putting them to the test in back country hunting and rucking, and we appreciate your thorough comparison with our Micro Full Cushion Crew socks.
We apologize for the discomfort you experienced with new boots and a heavy load on your first ruck, but we're glad to hear that the socks held up well and have been performing perfectly since then. It's great to know that you have been using them weekly for over a month now without any issues and have even taken them on a challenging 4.5 mile ruck with a 40 pound load without needing to do a sock change.
We're also thrilled to hear that you have been a loyal customer for over ten years and that our products have continued to meet your expectations. Thank you for your support and we hope our socks continue to serve you well in all your outdoor adventures.
Happy rucking!

Much more comfortable and $5 cheaper than the Darn tough socks I used to use that seem to wear-out the wool faster leaving just a lot of nylon:(. These are 66% merino/22% nylon vs. DTs 43% merino/54% nylon - and still stand up to my brutal hikes. I'm sold.
Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Lightweight Mountain Hereitage Crew Wool Socks. We are thrilled to hear that you have found them to be great for hot hiking and more comfortable than the Darn tough socks you used to use. We take pride in using high-quality materials, to ensure durability and comfort on even the most brutal hikes. We appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy our socks.

I love these socks,
I think they are jazzy,
They are maximum comfort,
And really look snazzy,
They don’t pinch my toes,
That I don’t like,
They swaddle my dawgs,
And feel just right,
The best of the best,
You can take that down town,
When it comes to socks I don’t fool around.
David,
I love it! Thank you for your review! We are thrilled to hear that you love our All Season - Crew Wool Socks Mountain Heritage. We also think they are pretty jazzy and we're glad they provide maximum comfort for you. We take pride in making sure our socks don't pinch toes and provide the perfect fit. Thank you for choosing our socks, we don't fool around when it comes to quality!

This is my first time getting and then wearing your socks and By- God I love them! I take care to wash them with my other wool items and have found that they haven't reduced in size. I have big wide feet and these socks where not tight or snug, so for you Big Foot people out there have no fear here with this brand as it won't disappoint you.
As long as you keep your quality at a top notch level "33" you will then continue to have my loyalty.
Best and thanks!
Russell

I have multiple pairs of Minus33 socks and they are literally the best socks everrrr! I wear them every single day. At work, on hikes, taking the dog for a walk, you name it. They fit really well too. I've had trouble with merino wool socks that don't fit right (either M is too small and L is too big, no in between). 10/10 will buy in every color.
Laura,
Thank you so much for reaching out and giving us such a fantastic review. It's so good to hear that you are enjoying your Mountain Heritage All Season Crew Socks. These are my personal favorite sock here at Minus33 and I have a pair for everyday of the week! We are glad that you were able to find the size that works for you as well. Thanks again for your review.
Stay warm,
-Steven D
my first pair and i am very happy with the way they fit and the padding comfort tey provide. Great for walking thru farm land and climbing hills. Will purchase more and they are made in the USA.
The lightweight socks are great. I bought them for everyday use and they are great for colder days but are going to be a little warm for hot days. The crew length is a little shorter than I like but are what they advertised. So far a great product!
great fit, very soft, very warm, i would class these more as 'mid-weight' so if you feel you need something 'light' or 'feather' weight go down a step
I really love these socks which are so comfortable for daily wear at home and out and about. So glad NHPR introduced them to me as a thankyou gift for subscribing. It is great to be able to deal with local businesses.
Absolutely a must for hiking and hunting. They breathe, they stay in place, they’re warm but not bulky they’re perfect.
Soft, cushioning, comfortable, warm socks!
